As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) unveils Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman as the vice-presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections, the Progressive Youth Alliance (PROYA) is delighted to extend its sincere congratulations to Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, who has been officially nominated and outdoored as the running mate to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the upcoming December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana. Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman's selection is a momentous occasion and a significant milestone in the history of Ghana's 4th Republic, as she becomes the first woman to be chosen as a running mate of a major political party in the country. Her nomination is not only a milestone for gender equality but also a testament to her remarkable competence and capability in serving the nation.

As the first female Vice-Chancellor of a public university, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman is an inspiration to countless women aspiring to leadership roles. Her exemplary leadership has paved the way for other women to rise to prestigious positions, as seen in the appointments of female Vice-Chancellors at institutions such as the University of Ghana, Legon, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

The Progressive Youth Alliance (PROYA) expresses its utmost admiration for Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman's remarkable achievements and contributions to academia, particularly in the field of education. Professor Agyeman's unwavering commitment to promoting quality education for all and her tireless efforts to empower young people have made her an inspiration to many. We are proud of her accomplishments and wish her continued success in her future endeavors as a running mate and vice president in waiting.

PROYA also commends Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman's dedication to excellence and her unwavering commitment to advancing the cause of women in leadership. Her selection resonates deeply with our cherished dream of seeing a woman occupy the highest office of Vice President, and we call upon all progressive minds, especially women groups, market women associations, gender activists, women's rights advocates, and Abantu for Development, to rally behind her candidacy and actively participate in the campaign trail, regardless of their political beliefs or ideologies.

It's worth noting that unlike the NPP, who belittle the Vice President's role, describing it as a mere "driver's mate," the NDC holds the position in high regard. Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman's nomination exemplifies this respect for the Vice Presidency, emphasizing the importance of her role in shaping the nation's future.

In conclusion, PROYA reaffirms its confidence in Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman's ability to serve as Vice President with distinction. Let us unite in solidarity to support her candidacy and work towards realizing our collective vision of a more inclusive and progressive Ghana.

Signed, George Akaribo Public Relations Officer (PRO) Progressive Youth Alliance (PROYA)
