Kramokrom (Ash), May 23, GNA - Health, Sanitation and Security in the Asante-Akim Municpality has received a boost with the taking-off of four projects in these sectors.
The projects include two Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Kramokrom and Boatengkrom, both farming communities, a 20 seater water closet toilet at Konongo Odumase Senior High School and a Police barracks at Konongo.
Funded with the assembly's share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the projects seek to address perennial challenges facing the various beneficiaries and improve their living conditions.
Alhaji Braimah Boyong, the Asante Akim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) cut the sod for the commencement of the four projects.
The CHPS compounds have facilities for a consulting room, male and female wards, accommodation for a resident nurse and a borehole with an overhead tank to provide water to the facilities.
About 3,500 people from adjoining communities such as Adumkrom, Anurso, Anawuokrom and Alaji would benefit from the two compounds when completed.
Most people presently trek between six and 10 kilometers to attend hospital at Dwease and Konongo, the completion of the facility would therefore come as a big relief.
The MCE, who performed the ceremony in the company of a team of officials from the Assembly, said government was committed to investing in infrastructure development.
He said the provision of the CHPS compounds was in line with government's policy to provide health facility to every community with a population of over 500.
He stated that the two beneficiary communities were the bread baskets of the Municipality and deserved to have access to quality healthcare.
Alhaji Boyong entreated community members to monitor the progress of the projects and report any anomaly for prompt action to be taken, adding that, they were major stakeholders.
Mr Martin Sarfo, the Municipal Director of health services lauded the assembly for the projects, which he said, would improve health delivery in the area.
He said the health directorate was prepared to provide the needed staff and urged the communities to provide conducive environment for them to work, once the projects were completed.
He encouraged residents, especially pregnant women, to patronise the facilities, saying that, it was imperative to eliminate maternal deaths.
Chief Superintendent Alex Amenyo, the Konongo Divisional Police Commander commended the Assembly for the Police barracks, since providing accommodation for Police personnel would be crucial for effective policing.
