Political Parties Must Build Multi Ethnic Cohesive Nation—CPP
11.05.2015 LISTEN

The Chairman of the Political committee of the CPP, Mr Ekow Duncan has bemoaned the reliance of the NDC and NPP on ethnicity to rally support for their parties.

Mr Duncan pointed out that the responsibility of political parties in a multi ethnic society was to galvanize the people on the basis of their development policy prescriptions for the prosperity of the nation.

The challenge of our infant democracy in the view of Mr Duncan was the capability of political parties to unite the nation in pursuit of our development vision and aspirations that is inspired and dictated by the justifications of our struggle for colonial freedom.

He further pointed out that the electoral world bank of the NDC and NPP is indicative of a national ethnic divide that serves as their support base.

He remarked that apart from having an ethnic support base, the 2 parties have cumulatively governed the country for more than 32 years and pursued the same externally dictated economic development policy of structural adjustment that has seen to the sale of discounted public assets to their families and friends and the liberalization of trade that has crippled our domestic manufacturing sector leading to mass unemployment.

Mr Duncan pointed out in contrast that the CPP is a detribalized party that rallies support to unite the nation on the back of a policy to develop the capacity of the cooperative sector in primary production and the manufacturing sector to utilize the resources of the nation to produce for national consumption and export

Mr Duncan was speaking at the Alhaji and Alhaji talk show on Radio Gold on Saturday.
