Ghana Chapter inducts newly elected Executive Committee

Accra, 28 April, 2015 – Prof Nii Narku Quaynor, Chair of the Internet Society (ISOC) Ghana Chapter has inducted a nine-member Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the Internet Society (ISOC) Ghana Chapter. In a brief swearing- in ceremony at the Ghana Indian Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in IT, Prof. Quaynor charged the EXCOM to come up with innovations that will take the Chapter to the next level.

Prof. Quaynor stressed the importance of continuity and cautioned the new leadership to carry on with the good works of their predecessors. He said, “as you come up with new ideas, do not abandon the gains of your predecessors, however if there is the need for change, do it gradually. Quaynor also mentioned the issue of participation, emphasizing the importance of engaging all members of the Chapter, “every member of the Chapter is free to contribute to the ethos of the ISOC, which is to promote the Internet.

The elections, which brought the newly EXCOM into leadership was the first-ever online-based elections and was keenly contested. ISOC members who put themselves up to be elected used social media to campaign and interact with one another which has never happened in the history of the Chapter. According to Mr. Godfred Ofori-Som, Chair of Election Complaints Committee, no complaints were reported during the elections. He said, “I am very happy at the outcome of the elections, and I believe that the new EXCOM will put guidelines in place to improve upon the next elections.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Marcus K. G. Adomey, thanked members for reposing their trust in him and electing him as President of the Chapter. The President elect who expressed his delight at the participation of members during the elections said, “judging from the ongoing discussions after the elections, there is the sense that we all are poised to put the elections behind us, roll up our sleeves and put our shoulders to the wheel to contribute our quota to the advancement of the Chapter. “
