Politics Minister advises MMDAs to be agents of change

Zebilla (U/E), May 1, GNA - Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has advised Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), to be effective agents of behavioural and attitudinal change in their various Assemblies, to promote development.

He also challenged the Chief Executives to take the National Sanitation Day campaign to a greater height, to promote public and environmental health.

Alhaji Dauda gave the advice when he addressed staff and Departmental Heads of Bawku West and Binduri District Assemblies in the Upper East Region on Thursday.

Alhaji Dauda, who is also the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, charged the Heads of Departments at the MMDAs, to promote sustainable economic development in their areas to raise the living standards of the people.

The Minister noted that there was the need for the aAssemblies to bring on board innovative ideas that would help them to generate internal funds to support government efforts in ensuring development.

Naba Azumbilla Ndago Aboya the third, Chief of Zebilla, welcomed the idea of the NSD, and pledged the people of Zebilla's continuous participation in the exercise.

He urgedthe public to sustain the monthly exercise, and appealed to the Ministry to provide the people of Zebilla with toilet facilities, to curb open defecation in the area.

Naba Robert Agapwin Akolbila, Binduri Naa, said: "we have embraced the NSD, and will give it the fullest support and backing to succeed."

He expressed appreciation to the Government of the National Democratic Congress for providing the district with a Community Senior High Schools, CHIPS Compound, and other infrastructural development projects.

Mr Daniel Syme, Deputy Regional Minister, said the development of the district relied on the commitment of departmental heads and staff, and therefore, urged them to be patriotic and promote the development of the Assembly to raise the living standards of the people.

The Minister was in the region together with his two Deputy Ministers, Mr Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and Mr Emmanuel Kwadjo Agyekum, Members of Parliament respectively, for Odododiodioo in the Greater Accra Region, and and Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
