Akufo-Addo Not The President Of Ghana

Akufo-Addo Not The President Of Ghana
20.04.2015 LISTEN

The United Cadres' Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), wish to express our disgust at the attitude of the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on his recent press statement concerning the xenophobic attacks on none South African black immigrants in that country.

To us as a political grouping there is nothing wrong with the NPP leader condemning what is universally condemnable. However, we take serious exception when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo attempts to carry himself as the legitimate President of the Republic of Ghana.

In his statement condemning the despicable act of violent discrimination against immigrant Africans, Nana Addo, in parts of it was addressing the South African President directly as if he is the sitting President of this Republic. Nana Addo ought to tell us in what capacity was he saying this 'To this end I urge President Jacob Zuma to do all in his power to ensure that the attacks end, as well as bring to book all persons responsible for this wave of violence'

We consider this act rather unfortunate which to us is a spite and an open insult to the sitting President of the Republic of Ghana. His conduct cannot be explained away as a mistake (if he is courageous to suggest so) since he once occupied the coveted office of Foreign Affairs Minister and knows how inter-state diplomacy is carried.

Meanwhile, it is our desire that much as we are all condemning these dastardly acts of terminating the lives of fellow black Africans in South Africa, we expect Nana Addo to condemn the violent attacks that were carried in his name against NDC activists in the wake of his losing the 2012 Presidential elections at Obra Park.

Nana Akufo Addo is hereby told that much as he is desirous of becoming the president of this republic - he has not been given the opportunity yet and must wait till such a time and in the unlikely event that Ghanaians opt to give him that authority.

Nana AddoDankwaAkufoAddo - YOU ARE NOT THE PRESIDENT OF GHANA.

Similarly, the UCF was taken aback when we heard the flag-bearer admonition the President of the Republic of Ghana not to use unconstitutional means in appointing the next Chairman of the Electoral Commission.

Whatever the reasons for this un-necessary vituperation, we care less- except to state that the very constitution that mandates the President of Ghana, based on the advice of the Council of State to name a successor to Dr. KwadjoAfariDjan, is exactly what the President of Ghana, His Excellency John DramanIMahama is to meet.

We caution however, that if these statements are made in preparation for a premeditated design to reject any yet-to-be appointed new Chairman of the E.C and cause confusion - it is hereby advised that Nana and his like-minded compatriots reconsider their plans.

Signed
EfanamNyakuKomla Felix
General Secretary, UCF of NDC
