Cpp Grassroots Angry As Samia Unilaterary Goes To Court On Issues Of Gmo
08.04.2015 LISTEN

The unilateral pronouncement by the CPP Chair and Leader that CPP is to join a foreign NGO in its anit-GMO law suit against the Government may be the last thing that breaks the patience of CPP rank and file. Over the weekend the members confessed that they have really been patient with her for sentimental reasons but enough is enough!

Anger has been expressed by the rank and file of the convention people's party about the quest of their Chair and leader Samia Yaba Nkrumah to join suit as co-plaintiff against the ministry of Agriculture and the Ghana government using the party's name.

According to some regional executives and members of the tertiary education charter of the convention people's party (TESCHART) they see this as yet another orchestrated attempt by the failed leader to divert attention from the wind of change blowing in the party.

The angry members tells us that the National Executive Committee (NEC) have not formally declared their position on the GMO issue and that every thing that has been said by Samia all this while has been her personal opinion. Again a request has not been sent to NEC to support FSG in court as co-plaintiff.

NEC is the second highest decision making body of the CPP apart from congress. It will be recalled that Samia Yaba Nkrumah has introduced a 5 point plan among others as a way forward for the party when she was elected chair of the CPP, This so called five point agenda has failed woefully.

The grassroots laments that the Samia led administration has make the CPP loose focus and contact with the grass roots, weakened organization and reduced the standing of the party in the eyes of the public, something they say they can never forgive her for making it happen.

The term of office of all regional and national executives have expired, Samia and Co have no locus as we speak now, they have exhausted the time extension given them by NEC and even the extension they gave themselves in a central committee sitting contrary to the dictates of the NEC. What angers the rank and file the most is that instead of the national chairman and leader concentrating on collective efforts to conduct elections to retain or elect new regional and national executives, Samia and Co are hanging on to power to engage in individual and selfish agenda the grassroots laments.

Some regions have finished their constituencies elections and are awaiting regional elections, instead of Samia and her executives making sure the already far behind elections are done at the quickest time, they are not doing so, so they can continue to hang on to power.

Some of the grassroot has promised to teach her a bitter lesson by voting immensely against her should she contest for any national position. When they were told that Samia has declared that she wants to contest for the flagbearership, they simply said from the way she has further worsen the fortunes of the party, they won't even vote for her as a Porter of the party, However they all agreed that she did a passable job as a legislator and advised that she went back to Jomoro and contest for the Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the CPP.

When asked what their stance on GMO is, they simply said their individual opinions don't matter and that NEC will have to invite all the expect scientists, Agric experts to debate any paper about this from an objective and not emotional Nkrumaist perspective to arrive at a conclusion, which can become the party's official stance. They however advised that what they are looking forward to from this leadership before their exit from office, is the return of all the confiscated assets of the party. They also wondered what is the rational and motive behind taking to court a government that wants to give you your assets back over GMO which is something that most of the people in Ghana don't really understand but have only heard the propaganda. They questioned the judgement of Samia and co because politically this doesn't make sense!. The aggrieved members say that they are fully aware of the power of propaganda especially in a society where a whole congregation has been convinced to go out and eat grass. WHat concerns them is their party's readiness to compete and do well at the national level so they advise Samia and co to get on with what matters to them the most. The main question on every cpp members mind is when will the cpp go to congress to elect new more mature and focused leadership for a new direction. It is only a small noisy minority who want to sacrifice their party for anti-GMO campaign. The majority are more concerned about the bread and butter issues that are central to the well being of Ghanaians, These are the rising cost of living imposed by huge debt burden, a weak currency worsened by high imports bill and reducing productivity and the widening gap between the rich and poor in Ghana today!
