Some suspected land guards have allegedly assaulted Charles Boateng, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Tema Central Constituency.

The incident occurred after a dispute over a playground at Community 7, Tema within the Union Electoral Area which was said to have been sold to a private developer by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

The suspects were said to be providing protection for the developer who had stormed the playing ground with excavators to cut down trees to begin the project.

The suspected land guards, who were said to be wielding sticks and machetes, attacked the chairman, who travelled to the area with some senior citizens to dialogue with the developers last week.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE , Charles Boateng, who bled profusely after sustaining injuries, mentioned that his attention was drawn to the dispute between the youth in the area who played at the ground and the developers.

According to him, 'Sunday afternoon after I had closed from church I received information that the developers were in the area. We decided to meet them as opinion leaders in the area to dialogue.'

He mentioned that during the meeting, a misunderstanding ensued and the suspects attacked many people at the venue.

The NPP chairman was of the view that the attack on him and the residents was unprovoked, stating that he had to defend himself at the place.

He added that 'we, the residents of Community 7, will stand up for our rights and we will not allow anyone to take what is rightfully ours.

Mr Boateng lodged a formal complaint with the Community 8 Police Station, who issued a medical form to him to attend hospital for examination and treatment.

Meanwhile, the police have mounted a search for the culprits who were allegedly hired by a famous restaurant operator that intends to open a branch in Tema.
