Politics Alan: Latest flagbearer defeat means little to my political fortunes
OCT 21, 2014 LISTEN

Defeated flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alan Kyerematen has dismissed suggestions that his political fortune within the NPP is dwindling.

The former trade minister lost to Nana Akufo-Addo in the party's congress for a third consecutive time last Saturday.

Mr Kyerematen's votes have also reduced from 32.30 per cent in 2007 to 4.75 per cent at the just ended flagbearership contest.

However, speaking to Joy News' Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah after he paid a courtesy call on Nana Akufo Addo, the defeated aspirant insisted his latest loss means very little to his political fortune.

"I do not see that as a reflection of what you describe as my dwindling fortunes in the party. I do not see it that way.

"We go into a competition... there is a difference in the different elections and so on what basis do we make that judgement?"

On the contrary, Alan Kyerematen touted his contribution to the party in and out of government.

"I have always been a key part of the party's political landscape. I am founding member of the party and have been a member of the National executive Committee for some time and I have played a key role for the party in government.

"And i will continue to remain a loyal member of the party," he said.

He also dismissed claims he abandoned Nana Akufo-Addo during the previous national elections.
