Voting in progress in the Volta Region
Nana Akufo-Addo beat Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten in the presidential primary in the Volta Region despite earlier predictions by some political analysts that Nana would be defeated in the region.

Nana Addo polled 7,474 votes out of total valid votes of 8,983.

His close contender, Alan garnered 1,372 votes while Francis Addai Nimoh had 137 votes.

The Electoral Commission (EC) in Ho also indicated that 138 rejected ballots were recorded.

In 2010, he garnered many votes in the Volta Region, particularly in the southern part of the region.

Voting was generally peaceful and smooth but there were some skirmishes over money for transportation purportedly provided by Nana Addo through his agents to delegates at Dzolokpuita in the Ho West District of the Volta region.

The problems were quickly resolved by the party's officials.

In the Kpando Constituency, one Laud Dzabe was arrested for possessing more than one ballot paper, but he was granted bail on Sunday.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, who confirmed the story, said investigations were ongoing.

The Regional Secretary, Joseph Homenya disclosed that the party would deal with the matter internally and make the findings known to members accordingly.

He therefore thanked all delegates for comporting themselves to ensure a smooth exercise.

Mr Homenya also thanked the Electoral Commission (EC), Police and executives of the various constituencies of the party in the region and the media for their outstanding support.

He therefore called on NPP members to unite to support the flagbearer to ensure that the party recaptures power in 2016 to improve the fortunes of the country.

In all, 25 out of 26 constituencies partook in the exercise consisting of five delegates from 2,283 polling stations and 673 electoral areas.

The rest were coordinators and constituency executives, regional executives and founding members of the party across the region.

Ketu South with 178 polling stations has the highest number of delegates while Adaklu has the least with 26 polling stations.

Mr. Kyerematen recorded 231, his highest number of votes in the Ketu South constituency and four at Nkwanta North.

Ho West is the only constituency that could not partake in the exercise due to a court injection placed on the executives and a dispute over the delegates' album to be used for the process.

That notwithstanding, scores of supporters of the party in the regional capital, Ho took to the streets to jubilate.
