Kukurudu'-Chanting Minister Invokes Antoa
20.10.2014 LISTEN

Mavis Ama Frimpong
The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, has threatened to invoke the Antoa Nyamaa river deity to clear her name in connection with a leaked tape that recorded her voice as chanting 'Kukurudu,' the slogan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The incident occurred when she was addressing a meeting organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—the party of which she is a member—in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

Ms Frimpong, a week ago, shocked the Eastern regional executives of the NDC when she chanted the slogan of the main opposition party, during a meeting with the National Chairman of the party, Dr Kwabena Adjei, at the Residency.

The deputy minister chanted “Kukurudu! Kukurudu! Kukurudu!” ostensibly to capture the attention of the party gurus as she was about to deliver her welcome address.

She became aware of the blunder when her attention was drawn to it, compelling her to render an apology.

NDC insiders believe Ms Frimpong, former DCE until she was elevated to her present position, was only exhibiting her true NPP colours when she chanted the slogan.

Some of the executives wondered why the deputy minister could commit such an 'unpardonable' mistake.

The meeting with the regional executives formed part of Dr Adjei's campaign tour of the region.

However, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the issue was causing great confusion among the regional executives of the NDC as fingers were being pointed at some executives for the leak.

DAILY GUIDE can confirm that it had created misunderstanding, accusations and counter-accusations among the executives which had compelled the Deputy Eastern Regional Organiser and the substantive Organiser, Kudjo  Adukpo, to threaten invoking Antoa Nyamaa to clear his name.

Even though the National Chairman of the party, Dr Kwabena Adjei, has apologised on behalf of the deputy minister, explaining that it was a 'mere verbal error', some party executives still want to get to the bottom of the matter to identify the person behind the leak of the tape.

Some executives believe that some individuals, who initially kicked against the appointment of Mavis as the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister by President John Dramani Mahama, might be responsible for the leaked information.

The Lord Has Spoken
Reacting to the deputy minister's blunder, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful, MP for Ablekuma West, says Ms Frimpong's action was divine.

Speaking to the issue, Ursula said, 'Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.'

'Even NDC ministers are shouting 'Kukurudu!'…And so in 2016 it means the Lord has spoken. They have accepted that the NPP is the only option,' she remarked in a panel discussion on a Peace FM morning show programme.
