CPP Takes On Health Ministry Over Cholera Outbreak
16.10.2014 LISTEN

The Convention People's Party (CPP) has written to the Minster of Health Dr Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah on the outbreak of Cholera in the country.

The party seeks to highlight the effect of Cholera on and from the most affected communities by getting its Branches in those Communities to communicate directly with the Ministry of Health.

The CPP in La Dadekotopon Constituency, one of the most affected has thus written to Dr Agyeman-Mensah, pointing out that a high proportion of over 6000 persons affected by the outbreak are from that Constituency with over 2000 reported at the LA General Hospital. It points out further that the hospital has recently also recorded 12 deaths.

“This is thus the most serious threat confronting our constituency and we write to note that the Convention People's Party (CPP) in the Constituency and nationally finds the situation unacceptable” the letter noted.

The CPP acknowledged the various measures that have been taken nationally to seek to tackle the outbreak including the education campaign in the area, but in the view of the Constituency the Ministry of Health (MOH) , the Water Company and AMA need to try harder noting that particular measures are needed in the Constituency including checking the “Water Grid” within the Constituency route by route, line by line to trace any damage and interface between water pipes and contaminated sources such as gutters and other sanitation points.

The CPP is calling for Sanitation Inspectors to be deployed House to House to check on the source of drinking water and the sanitation situation in houses. That Cholera Education must also be taken house to house to areas of high incidence such as La.

The Party views one life lost as one too many and 12 lives lost as a tragedy for the nation and an indictment on the health and sanitation services of the country.

The Party hopes that the Minister of Health and his Ministry will address the concerns raised urgently to the

benefit of the citizens of La Dadekopon.
