Injunction On NDC Tema Central
16.09.2014 LISTEN

Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central Constituency have filed an interlocutory injunction to stop the constituency's executive election.

The injunction was to question the eligibility of the executives of 24 branches of the party in the constituency.

Watson Tizor Apentsui, Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that due to the injunction, the NDC Tema Central elections scheduled for Friday, September 11 had been postponed.

Mr Apentsui said a copy of the injunction was sent to the Tema office of the Electoral Commission on Friday at about 0700 hours.

He explained that the injunction was to contest the procedure used in appointing the executives for those 24 branches to become delegates to vote in the election.

He said until the Tema High Court moves the motion on the injunction on September 16, the EC would not be able to conduct the election.

Meanwhile, the NDC Tema East and West constituencies successfully elected their executives.

At the Tema West constituency, 616 out of the 640 delegates cast their vote.

Mr Apentsui declared Ben Ganyo Doe who polled 287 votes as the newly-elected chairman.

William Ebo Enu had 260 votes to emerge the vice chairman, while Andrews Okine Okai was also declared the secretary after polling 275 votes.

John Doe Amesi and Wlliam Adortse polled 218 and 356 votes to emerge as the deputy secretary and organiser respectively.

Hajia Anisa Yakubu received 482 votes to become the constituency treasurer, while the deputy treasurer position went to Alexander Tettey, who polled 210 votes.

Emmanuel Noble Kor was declared the propaganda secretary, while Peace Aku Ashong and Sophia Mensah emerged as women's and deputy women's organizers respectively.

Gabriel Lucky Ocansey was elected the youth organizer while Suley Musah and Eric Arthur retained their positions as deputy youth organiser and deputy propaganda secretary respectively.

Mr Apentsui said another election would be held to determine who would be the next deputy organiser since both contestants-Henry Ubor and Seth Kwaaku Matanawui garnered 164 votes.

In the Tema East Constituency, the new chairman Alhaji Mahama Bulisa polled 192 out of the 507 votes to unseat the incumbent Mustapha Darko, who placed third with 88 votes.
