I'm Ready To Reverse Economic Woes — Akufo-Addo
20.08.2014 LISTEN

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reiterated that he is strong enough to work to reverse the economic mess created by the Mahama administration.

According to him, Ghanaians are looking for a decisive president who will initiate and execute policies and programmes that will bring relief and prosperity.

'I am strong for the work ahead,' he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who is contesting the NPP presidential primary for the third time, was addressing party members and supporters at the Kumasi Arts Centre as part of his campaign prior to the August 31, 2014 Special Delegates Congress to elect the first five of the seven persons who have filed to contest for the flagbearer position.

Nana Akufo-Addo is contesting six other aspirants, one of whom would be voted for by a National Congress that will be held at regional centres in all the 10 regions in Ghana on October 18, 2014 to lead the party in the 2016 general election. Alhassan Ouatara

Nana Akufo-Addo used the example of President Alhassan Ouatara (who is 72 years old) to make a case that after nearly a decade of instability, Mr Ouatara had been able to bring sanity to the Ivorian economy, which is currently progressing.

He noted that under President Mahama, who prior to the election claimed to be a young man, Ghanaians were going through severe economic hardship, and assured the people that when he was given the mandate things would turn around.

He described the 'Better Ghana agenda' of President Mahama as 'collapsed', culminating in massive unemployment, rising cost of living and the increasing folding up of industries. Human resource

He said the NPP has rich human resources, and pledged to use the resources to ensure that Ghanaians experienced improved development. Supreme Court

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was one of the three NPP members who petitioned the Supreme Court on the 2012 election results, stated that the party had learnt great  lessons from the judgement of the Supreme Court. Dr Bawumia

Dr Mahamadu Bawumia likened the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to an incompetent and corrupt mason who, after taking so much money from a client, bought less cement and other materials, resulting in the collapse of the building after a light storm.

He explained that the current administration had been very fortunate because cocoa and gold prices had been 52 per cent and 172 per cent respectively higher than what was prevailing during the Kufuor administration.

He added that the Mahama government was also receiving oil proceeds, something that was absent during the Kufuor administration and had borrowed over $20 billion but, unfortunately, due to bad governance and the lack of foresight, Ghanaians were rather suffering instead of benefitting from those developments.
