Sanction Tstatsu For His Comments – Minority To GBA

The Minority Caucus in Parliament is calling on the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to sanction the lead counsel for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the election petition, Tsatsu Tsikata for his attack on Justice Anim Yeboah after the supreme judgment on the election petition case. 

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday, the MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu said an attack on any member of the bench is an attack on the fundamental principles of the rule of law and must not be tolerated.

'Mr. Tsikata's comments are not related to the reasoning given in support of this verdict and for that reason, he was not engaged in an intellectual legal exercise which is criticizing the judgment, offering opinions or showing that the judge was wrong…'

The caucus described the comment by Mr Tsikata as reckless and called on the GBA to apply the necessary sanctions saying, 'the charge of bias is not related to his judgment and therefore it was needless attack on the judge's integrity.'

Mr. Osei-Owusu added that Mr. Tsikata's conduct was 'totally unprofessional and cowardly. We want the Judicial Council and the Ghana Bar Association's Council to take action in respect of these comments and conduct investigations in accordance with the rules of the profession and proffer the appropriate punishment if need be.'

He also deplored the habit of some social commentators and politicians attacking the person of the judges who sat on the case.
