Maverick politician and a founding member of the NPP, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby has revealed he rejected a letter purported to have contained his suspension note being delivered on behalf of the party.

He explained to Joy News that he refused to accept the letter yesterday because it has what he described “illegal” contents.

“Totally illegal” he opined on Monday, and “we must not compound illegality”.

A letter addressed to Dr. Wereko-Brobby dated 31st May 2013 signed by Deputy General Secretary of the NPP Abdulai Fuhlanba said he breached Article 3D (duties of a member) i, ii, iii and iv of the party's constitution.

“Subsequently the NEC [National Executive Council] noting your claims to be a founding member of the party has decided to enforce Article 3F (suspension of a member) 1, 2 of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party”.

The letter also read in part, “You are consequently suspended from membership of the party or holding yourself out to be a member until the determination of the disciplinary process.”

But in an uncompromising stance, Dr Wereko-Brobby, affectionately called Tarzan, tried to punch holes into the letter raising issues of possible misrepresentation. He stated that the Article quoted in the letter is used in reference to “what a member is suppose to do” if you are in breach of that Article and the process prescribed for it; “basically about notification and about the start of disciplinary process so I don't know which is which”.

But Abdulai Fuhlanba insisted Dr Wereko-Brobby failed to abide by the constitution adopted by members of the party.

Asked if the suspension was not premature since he was not given fair hearing, he shot back “fair hearing about what?”

He stressed that the NEC suspended Tarzan based on his views on the ongoing election petition because “a true party man would not be talking the way he is talking”.

He noted that Tarzan criticism on the party is not a rumour but “it is open so what do you want to hear from him again.”

Now the only option left for Dr. Wereko-Brobby is to appear before the disciplinary committee to clear himself, Fuhlanba suggested, but “if he is not able to prove [himself] there are harder sanctions that the party may evoke or employed”.
