Spokesperson for Former President John Agyekum Kufour, Mr. Frank Agyekum has said the former President has not been served with any court writ in connection to the 33 Ghanaians who died in the Gambia eight years ago.
“From President Kufour's end he has not received any writ or summons from anybody or any court and I can assure you that once he receives it he is going to respond appropriately. He doesn't think his government did any wrong in that matter and that they are prepared to defend themselves in the best of manner.”
According to Mr. Agyekum “it is shocking and surprising that after all this while somebody just pops up and claims to be an international human rights activist and then accuse people.”
“We [NPP] are ready to respond whichever way it comes,” he added.
“This matter when it came up the government then did all it could to try and bring a closure to the matter. We were dealing with a sovereign country and we had to go through processes which I think we did. We just could not go and impose our will on them.”
Mr. Agyekum further stated that President Kufour and the NPP doesn't think any wrong doing had been done; “we spent a lot of time and effort on this matter and everybody saw the process that went through.”
An International Human Rights Activist, Anthony Rau on Monday came out publicly to say he has filed a suit at the International Criminal Court against former President, John Agyekum Kuffour, NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and Gambian President, Yayha Jammeh.
According to Mr. Rau, former President Kufour and Nana Akufo-Addo were complicit in the murder of over 33 Ghanaians in Gambia in 2005.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Monday, Mr. Rau said the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration led by President Kufour and Nana Akufo-Addo then Foreign Affairs Minister did little role to uncover the truth behind the murder of the Ghanaians.
But spokesperson for President Kufour said “Let him [Mr. Rau] bring the proof and then we will deal with it.”
