NPP has no case; they are just engaging in obstructionism and lawlessness - Ablakwa

A Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called the bluff of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which is determined to go to court over the results of Friday's elections.

The party argued that the December 7 polls were rigged to favour the incumbent president, John Mahama.

The NPP has decided to file a suit at the Supreme Court on Thursday December 13 over the alleged rigging of the elections.

The party said it has gathered results from ten constituencies, which it claimed were tampered with from the collation centre before it got to the Electoral Commission (EC). It is therefore confident a court of competent jurisdiction is the only neutral arbiter to lay matters to rest.

However, on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Okudzeto Ablakwa opined that the NPP has no shred of evidence to proof their case and that their resolve to seek legal redress will be an exercise in futility.

According to him, the opposition party in its desperation to win power at all cost has come out with fictitious figures to incite Ghanaians against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Okudzeto Ablakwa could not fathom why the NPP will have polling agents in all collation centres across the country and yet will come to say the elections were rigged.

The Deputy Information Minister minced no words describing the NPP's conduct as “obstructionism and act of lawlessness” which should be condemned in no uncertain terms.

“The NPP has been isolated by the International Community and it is sad they are refusing to concede defeat,” he added.

He said the fact that all the international observes accepted the results of the elections, “the NPP has no case”.

Okudzeto Ablakwa said Friday's election is the most peaceful therefore the NPP must not engage in any act of violence that will mar Ghana's democratic credentials.

In a rebuttal, a member of the NPP communication team, Emmanuel Asigri said the party has done nothing untoward hence their action must not be misconstrued.

He said the country's democracy will be under threat if the legitimate issues being raised by the NPP are swept under the carpet.

“What we are seeking to do to is to get the EC to do the right thing because Dr. Afari Gyan and the people at the Commission are not above the law”

Emmanuel Asigri said if the anomalies in the December 7 polls are not corrected “we will never have any free and fair election in Ghana”.
