Tema, June 16, GNA - The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) on Saturday organized a clean-up exercise in the metropolis in fulfillment of President John Evans Atta Mill's directive to carry out pre-flood clean-up exercises in the country.
The exercise, which started at about 0700 hours and ended at midday, was carried out by officials of the TMA, Security Services, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Zoomlion Ghana Limited and some residents.
Shops in the Tema Community One Market and the Central Business area were closed during the exercise as traders joined in cleaning of the gutters as sweeping of the area.
Mr Robert Kempes Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who led the exercise, said heavy equipments were being used to drain big gutters at Tema Manhean, and Tema Communities 18 and 20 as the exercise was going on.
He said Tema was yet to record any major flooding since the annual clean-up exercise was initiated two years ago.
Mr Ofosuware asked residents in the metropolis to sustain the exercise to ensure that their environs were always clean to avoid flooding and diseases.
