Give President Second Term - Youth For Atta Mills

A group calling itself Youth for Mills (YAM) has called on the Ghanaian electorate, particularly the youth, to re-new the mandate of the Mills/ Mahama-led administration for a second term in governance.

According to the spokesperson of the group, Mr Fortunate Anuga, President Mills had treated the youth of Ghana with utmost regard, recognition, respect and dignity and has also demonstrated his commitment to working with the youth.

Mr Anuga made the call Monday at a press briefing in Accra to kick start the group’s campaign geared at marshalling votes for President Mills for election 2012.

Some of the executives of YAM who were at the press conference were Nii Brock, National Chairman, Wisdom Crah, National Organiser and Mr Narayana Osei Nyarko, National Secretary.

“The confidence reposed in the youth by Mills is not only a novelty but ample manifestation of Mills’ desire to creating and preparing a vibrant youth who would hold the fort of leadership for the next generation,’’ he said

Mr Anuga said the attempts made by the opposition political parties, especially the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to denigrate what he described as a laudable contribution of Mills in the areas of the youth development would not materialise.

“No one can blink or begrudge the fact that the expansion and refurbishment of numerous roads in the country, the expansion and creation of new models under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), the creation and resuscitation of several factories that were neglected by the Kufuor-led NPP government and the national food and buffer stock company has created a cornucopia of jobs that have benefited the youth of this country,’’ he said.

According to Mr Anuga, YAM symbolised Mills’ desire and effort to spread the development net to cover every Ghanaian, irrespective of his or her religious, tribal and political inclination or persuasion.

He observed that President Mills was imbued with appropriate temperament needed, not only to sustain and advance the democratic practice but to bind the country as a united people with a common destiny, adding “his words and actions evince a commitment to developing the nation holistically on the foundation of respect for the rule of law’’.

“To lend credence to Kufuor’s assertion that corruption was as old as Adam, corruption became institutionalised and decentralised under his stewardship. State bodies like the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), which are constitutionally mandated to fight corruption, were deliberately malnourished and starved of funds,’’ he said.

Under Mills administration, Mr Anuga said SFO had been transformed into an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to fight against looting and plundering of the national coffers.

According to him YAM consisted of businessmen, lawyers, doctors and unemployed youth in all the 10 regions of the country.

Mr Anuga, however, promised that the group would give president Mills 11.4 per cent of the total votes to be cast during the 2012 general election.
