Takoradi June 8, GNA - The Western Regional branch of the United Cadres Front, on Friday called on high ranking officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to as a matter of urgency, resolve the political impasse between the former first couples and President John Evans Atta Mills.
The Front in a communiqué to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the June 4 Uprising, at Takoradi, asked council of elders, executives, chairmen and founding members of the party to settle the misunderstanding between Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, former first lady, and her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings and President Mills.
The statement was signed by Mr. David Owu Duncan, chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Jude Bart-Plange, Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Maxwell, Executive Member, Mr. Felix Ntibrey, Executive Member and Mr. Herbert Henry Hans, Regional Chairman of the June 4 Movement.
It said former President Rawlings was the spirit behind the June 4 Uprising, and played a pivotal role in the 31st December Revolution.
The Front said that the former President led the country under the Provisional National Defence Council, which gave birth to the current democratic dispensation.
The communiqué said: "We want all those calling themselves foot soldiers to realize that the NDC has cadres and sympathizers but not foot soldiers."
It called on the party hierarchy to incorporate cadres into NDC organization, to enable the party to win Election 2012.
It asked cadres, party supporters and sympathizers to unite and work hard to ensure that President Mills wins the election in order to continue the Better Ghana Agenda.
The statement said the NDC with its social democratic orientation would continue to spearhead the Better Ghana Agenda, and not a property owing democracy.
It reminded the leadership and cadres of the party and Government functionaries that the party was built on probity, transparency and accountability.
