'We are for peace'- Nkwanta South Chiefs declare

Nkwanta (V/R), May 24, GNA – The chiefs of Nkwanta-South District of the Volta Region, on Wednesday resolved to ensure peace before, during and after Election 2012.

“If there should be war in Ghana, we the chiefs and people of Nkwanta-South will not be part,” Nana Kennewu Addo Cheddere II, Chief of Challa, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs of the area, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He was speaking at the sidelines of a meeting of the chiefs to deliberate on how to ensure that peace prevailed in the district before, during and after the elections.

Nana Cheddere said the initiative was to ensure progress and promote development in the area and added that “we are generally deliberating on the education of our children, how to feed them and how to live peacefully and happily.”

He said the District lacked good roads and basic amenities of life and could not afford to allow their youth to fight each other because of politics and further deepen the plight of the people.

Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister, who made a stopover to greet the chiefs at the meeting while on an inspection tour of the Eastern Corridor Roads, commended the chiefs for the foresight.

He reminded Ghanaians that peace was a prerequisite for development, and asked the chiefs to advocate tolerance, love and understanding.

Mr Kamel assured the people that the Eastern Corridor Roads would, “surely be done and done on schedule.”

Mr Joseph Nincab, Nkwanta South District Chief Executive, said the peace was prevailing in the area.
