Mpraeso (E/R), May 18, GNA-The Mpraeso Circuit Court on Friday sentenced a 37- year- old trader to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour for indecent assaulting a 10- year old primary five pupil.
The trader, Danjuma Ella, pleaded not guilty to the charge but was later found guilty after the trial.
The prosecutor, Police Detective Inspector Christian Apronti, told the court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei, that both the victim and the trader live in the same house at Nkawkaw Zongo.
He said at about 1930 hours on February 5, the victim was invited by Danjuma into his room under the pretext of sending her to purchase some cigarette for him.
The prosecutor said no sooner had the victim entered the room than Danjuma held her hand and dragged her onto his bed and tried to sexually assault her.
The girl started crying and Danjuma stopped his action and rather inserted his fingers into her vagina and when he became satisfied he sent her away.
The prosecutor said the victim who was in pain reported her ordeal to her mother who engaged some boys to arrest Danjuma and was handed over to the police.
The victim was later issued with a medical form to attend hospital for medical examination.
During interrogation, the prosecutor said Danjuma denied having sex with the victim but admitted inserting his fingers into her vagina.
