Parliament resumes after Easter recess

Accra, May 15, GNA – Parliament resumed on Tuesday for commencement of the Second Meeting of Government Business with a call on members to give the leadership the needed cooperation and improve on attendance to enable the House to complete its business on time.

Mrs Justice Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, Speaker who made the call, commended members for their contribution towards the successful completion of the biometric registration exercise.

She said the session would be hectic as there were a lot of business to be conducted adding "Though members may be exhausted they need to sacrifice and contribute to the debates and issues of the House as a call to national service".

Mr Cletus Apul Avoka, Majority Leader welcomed members to the House and urged them to put in their best.

Ms Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology scheduled to answer questions appeared before the House.

She answered three questions pertaining to black fly nuisance which is threatening the smooth implementation of the Bui Dam Hydroelectric Project.

The others are, measures put in place to collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) and efforts to formulate the necessary laws and regulations on environmental pollution for the country.

Other items on the Order Paper included Public Health Bill, 2011, University of Professional Studies Bill, 2011, and Ghana AIDS Commission (Amendment) Bill 2010, all at the consideration stage.
