Nana Akufo Addo receives rousing welcome in Koforidua

Koforidua, May 15, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia received a rousing welcome from residents of Koforidua on Monday as he began his nation-wide campaign from the Eastern Region.

The five-day tour dubbed “Restoring Hope Tour” would take Nana Akufo-Addo to constituencies such as Kade, New Juaben North, New Juaben South, and Abuakwa North and South.

Nana Akufo Addo is accompanied on the tour by Mr Lord Commey, Director of Operations for the campaign team, Mr Kwabena Boakye Agyarko, Campaign Manager, Mr Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, Professor Samuel Amoako, MP for Abuakwa North, and all the regional executives of the party.

At the Juaben Serwah market and Koforidua Central market, Nana Akufo-Addo was mobbed by a joyous crowd of women, both young and old, who sang party songs to welcome him.

He interacted with petty traders, market women, shoppers and commuters, shaking hands and patting every shoulder that came his way.

Addressing the large crowd, Nana Akufo Addo, who lost the 2008 election, told them that he came to announce his readiness and determination to work hard to recapture power in 2012 from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He expressed optimism in winning the 2012 election and urged the people to pray for him for good health in order to bring back hope and smiles to the majority of Ghanaians.

At the Koforidua taxi rank, the drivers could not hide their joy for seeing the NPP leader and after listening to their concerns, Nana Akufo Addo appealed to them to vote for the NPP, come December this year to continue the good works of former President Kuffour.

He said President Mills in 2008 accused the then President Kuffour of being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians, hence the high increase in prices of fuel and that when he came to power he would reduce fuel drastically.

Nana Akufo Addo said President Mills in three years had increased prices of fuel to the highest point than any government.

Nana Akufo Addo also visited the Koforidua Polytechnic where he interacted with the lecturers and students and assured them of his commitment to ensure free secondary education and quality education at all levels.

He said the NPP government led by Former President Agyekum Kuffuor introduced a lot of social interventions such as the National Health Insurance, capitation grant, school feeding, livelihood empowerment against poverty and many others.

Nana Akufo Addo criticized the current government for not doing enough to make the interventions work effectively as expected, adding that the Mills and Mahama led government had lost focus and that it was only the NPP that could change the fortunes of the country.

The parliamentary candidate of New Juaben South, Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, said it was during the regime of NPP government that Koforidua experienced massive development including the construction of town roads and other social infrastructure.

He appealed to the people to show appreciation to the NPP by voting massively for Nana Akufo Addo and electing he Dr Assibey-Yeboah to parliament come December.

Nana Akufo Addo also visited Koforidua Zongo, Magazine and paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of New Juaben, Daasebre Professor Oti Boateng.
