Even before the biometric register will officially be made public by the Electoral Commission, the National Democratic Congress says its long held suspicion that figures from the Ashanti Region have been over-bloated has been vindicated.
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Joy News figures from its own draft register it compiled from the just ended biometric registration exercise show that the Ashanti Region figure used for the 2008 elections was over-bloated.
He also stated that constituencies in the Ashanti Region recorded remarkably low figures as compared to those in the 2008 voters register.
“We are compiling our own draft register so that we can compare with whatever figures the Electoral Commission will bring out. But the figures we are seeing I think are good for NDC because for once our party has been vindicated on our long held position we have taken that the register has always been bloated in the Ashanti Region.
“The figures that are coming out from the Ashanti Region gives us a strong vindication of that position which we have held all along,” Asiedu Nketia told Joy News' Evans Mensah.
He said the figures generated from the biometric registration process give a true representation of the situation in the Ashanti Region.
He was commenting on the NDC's perception about the just ended biometric registration process which will phase off the voters register which has been used for our last three general elections.
Asiedu Nketia said even without the 3 per cent population growth rate over the four years, the current biometric register in the Ashanti Region is 100,000 less than the figure in the same region in 2008.
He did not, however, say what the situation is in the stronghold of the party - Volta Region- where the New Patriotic Party has also accused the ruling party of over-bloating its figures.
The General Secretary was however generally satisfied with measures taken by the EC to address their grievances.
