Don't create political turmoil in 2012 elections- Rev Ampiaw

Agona Nsaba (C/R), April 29, GNA - Reverend Samuel Eric Ampiaw, Chairperson of the Central presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has warned politicians to desist from acts that could create political turmoil during and after 2012 elections.

He said there could be chaos if Ghanaians refuse to understand the political game and its regulations.

Rev Ampiaw made this known at the opening of the 25th Presbytery meeting at Agona Nsaba, in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

The five day meeting is under the theme “The Holy Spirit and the Believer”.

According to Rev. Ampiaw “in politics there are no permanent friends, no permanent enemies but permanent interests.

He stressed that the prime interest for every true politician should be the well-being of the country and the people he seeks to govern.

“What profit then would it be for you to maim or brutalize the people in your quest to win political elections”, he said.

Rev Ampiaw reminded politicians that their common interest should be the people they seek to rule.

The Chairperson appealed to the Parliamentary and Presidential candidates contesting the 2012 elections to think about Ghana first and avoid acts that could bring chaos.

On education, Rev Ampiaw said the Central Presbytery was doing everything possible to renovate its schools to enhance quality teaching and learning.

Mr Sekyi Sam, Agona East District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) appealed to churches to play their respective roles to ensure peace and stability.

He said no Ghanaian would like the nation to be plunged into war after the elections as has happened in some neighboring countries.

Mr Sam said the NCCE was doing its best to educate the people on the need for peaceful elections.
