Biometric registration exercise halts at centres within Weija
Accra, April 20, GNA-Mr Albert Sam, Weija Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party on Friday expressed worry over the breakdown of biometric registration equipment at some registration centres in the area.
He said centres including Adu Gyamfi School at Sowutuom, Pank Secondary School and Islamic School also at Awoshie and Anyaa Market have suffered the problem four days now.
This he said had led to the inability of residents and potential voters to patronize the Biometric Voter Register exercise, which would empower them to vote in the upcoming elections.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Sam said he reported the issue to the Ga South Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Kofi Frimpong who had assured him that the machines would be fixed or be replaced so that the exercise could continue.
“But what I am still wondering about is what the Electoral Commission (EC) is going to do to replace the lost days within the 10- day period scheduled for the current third phase of the registration exercise.
“The EC official just told me they were thinking about it.”
Mr Sam urged EC to do all on their part to ensure that the exercise proceed smoothly.
