'Beware Of Cunning Politicians'

THE PEOPLE of Ngleshie Alata-Jamestown have been urged not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for their parochial interests during the upcoming general elections.

Residents of the area, classified among slum dwellings in Accra, were told to rather concentrate on how they could develop their environment and themselves instead of following the selfish dictates of politicians.

Separate speakers including Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V, Paramount Chief of Ngleshie Alata, gave the advice during the inauguration of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council at Mantse Agbonaa-Jamestown.

According to the speakers, the current violence associated with the ongoing registration exercise should be a wake-up call for the youth not to allow themselves to be used during the general election.

'Ngleshie Alata is currently a slum, deprived and outmoded unworthy of its new status,' he said adding the area was deplorable hence his call for government support   to develop it.

'I wish to stress that family discipline should engage the attention of all stakeholders in the national interest.'

The paramount chief of Ngleshie Alata commended government, the Ministry of Chieftaincy & Culture and Naa Professor Nabila and his team of experts for their role in the historic elevation of the Nlgeshie Alata stool to paramountcy status.

According to him, the elevation calls for a change in conception, perception, administration and management structures.

'Currently there are over ninety towns headed by various sub-chiefs which come under the Ngleshie Alata stool. I therefore wish to make a passionate appeal to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to assist in maintaining discipline in the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area.'

 Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Ada Mantse and President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, on his part, stressed that the way forward for the new Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council must be hard work by all to ensure that the desired goal was achieved for all who stand for the institution of chieftaincy.

He also called on the chiefs to work hard to achieve amicable settlements of disputes in Ghana and ensure peaceful co-existence among citizens.

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo said with the elevation of the Ngleshie Alata stool, well-meaning residents should initiate and support projects that would empower other residents economically.

He stressed that if peace prevails, investments that go into chieftaincy litigation could be used to improve the lot of children of school-going age and initiate important community projects.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
