30.11.2011 LISTEN

Mankessim (C/R), Nov 30, GNA – The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly will welcome any group of people or individuals who will want to embark on any project to improve the living conditions of the people in the municipality, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has said.

The MCE, however, advised people with such interests to liaise with the Assembly to avoid duplication since the Assembly had its own development plan.

Mr Hayfron made the call at a sensitisation seminar organised by Mankessim Number One Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union to advocate for the improvement of the condition of Mankessim-Cape Coast Lorry Park.

Business Sector Advocacy Challenge Fund (BUSAC) is supporting the Union to embark on the advocacy.

BUSAC Fund provided GH¢ 7,000.00 whilst the GPRTU is expected to pay 10 per cent as counterpart funding.

Mr Hayfron said the lorry park was part of the Mankessim market improvement project which had been awarded on contract for the laying of pavement blocks.

He said work was in progress at the market and it would be extended to the lorry park as soon as they finished with the market.

The MCE commended BUSAC for the concern shown and assured them that he would personally ensure that the work was done.

He appealed to drivers to be extra careful during the Christmas holidays to ensure the safety of commuters on the roads.

Mr Ericson Bright, BUSAC Consultant said the Fund was a project funded by international donors including the Danish International Development Agency, European Union and the United States Agency for International Development to support the Ghanaian private sector to advocate for change to remove constraints to their businesses.

He said the Fund was to facilitate the development and growth of a competitive and vibrant private sector by improving the environment in which businesses operated.
