MEMBERS OF the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya district, and others, yesterday staged a massive demonstration against their Member of Parliament (MP), Michael Teye Nyaunu, at Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern region, for not cooperating with his own government to develop the district.

The demonstration came barely 24 hours before President Mills, whom the MP has openly been criticizing and accusing, paid an official three-day visit to the region.

The demonstrators said the actions and inactions of their MP, whom they described as the 'most useless MP in Ghana', had stalled development in the district.

'Nyaunu described our President as a bad Yutong driver who is unfit to drive us further so we must change him, but we think that description best suits him (Michael Teye Nyaunu) since he has virtually nothing to show for his 15 years in  parliament,' the NDC branch executive members in the constituency said during the demonstration.

The demonstrators said their MP had shown that he was selfish by sacrificing the good of his people and the development in the constituency in general, for his parochial political interest by openly lambasting his own government whom he is suppose to cooperate with to bring development to his constituency.

According to the party people in the constituency, the MP undermined people he worked with for his selfish interest, adding that he undermined the then NDC MP for the area in 1995, Major Ted Tetteh (rtd), and succeeded him and the party's chairman, then Joseph Narh Kwablah.

'He also worked against a former Deputy Eastern regional minister appointed by former president Flt Lt J.J. Rawlings from the area, Lawyer Akweter of Kodjonya, and he is currently scheming and working against the removal of the current DCE appointed by President Atta Mills,' they complained.

According to the demonstrators, the MP had misconducted himself severally and was not fit to be the MP for the area, adding that he did not respect the chiefs in the constituency.

'He purchased a tractor with a common fund and registered it in his name and the tractor is nowhere to be found. He took money from GETfund to build classrooms at Atua and Kpong and never built those projects,' the people complained.

'We want to say categorically that our MP, Michael Teye Nyaunu, is a failure and disappointment to Krobos and we are calling on him to resign as our MP.'

The group said they had absolutely no confidence in their MP and would never allow him to even contest on the party's ticket again.

'We want to declare to the whole world that we of Lower Manya Krobo constituency are neutral in the contest between Nana Konadu and His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills, contrary to the unilateral declaration by our constituency executive,' they said, adding that by this action, they wanted the constituency executive members to also vacate their positions because they had lost the trust of supporters of the party in the constituency.

One of the placards carried by the demonstrators read, 'MP for sale'.
