The Legacy of President Mills That Should Not Last

The Legacy of President Mills That Should Not Last
29.03.2011 LISTEN

No one person will be the president of Ghana forever. However, some of the legacies of governments can remain with us for many years after their tenure. It is for this reason that I pray that one of the 'legacies' of President Mills will evaporate from Ghana as soon as he leaves office in 2012 or 2016.

It is apparent that many Ghanaians are unhappy with the fact that Ghana is turning into (or has already turned?) into a 'society of insults'. There is little respect for one another these days.

This is not as a result of any government policy per se and it would be unfair to suggest that this evil development started under President Mills. However, it is true to say that it has become worst over the last two years. We are witnessing people who are holding honourable offices such as Ministers of State engaging in free for all insults instead of thinking about how they could contribute to the life of the tax payer.

The insults by Ministers are at the back of constant calls by the President that we should all desist from insulting one another. The appointees give no 'respect' to the President otherwise they would have stopped a long time ago.

Even though I credit the President for personally to engaging in insults, I blame him for his 'lack' of leadership. I believe there are many other competent NDC members or other Ghanaians who can perform the role of the disrespectful ministers. Why has the President not changed them? If the achievement of single digit inflation by the Minister of Finance is an achievement of the President, then insults by any other Ministers will equally be deemed to be his works.

We did not witness this 'disrespectful society' under Rawlings or Kuffuor. I therefore urge Mills to ACT! Please change some of your appointees. Their insulting behaviour cannot be justified.

You are a Christian so you know that Christians are not to repay evil with evil. And the bible also says that 'you spare the rod to spoil the child'. You are the father of us all so please pick up the rod and crack the whip. Show that you are not happy with what is happening. This is my humble plea!

In either case, I pray that the end of your tenure ushers in a new crop of leaders (be it NPP or NDC) who will end this evil culture gaining grounds in our beloved country.

God bless our homeland Ghana
