Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is proposing that prospective African leaders be exposed to various areas in governance before they are voted into office.

He said this will equip them for good governance.
The former president made the proposal when he delivered a lecture at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.

Spokesperson for the former president, Frank Agyekum told Joy News Mr Kufuor was concerned that many African leaders came to the job without any leadership experience unlike elsewhere where leaders are groomed.

According to Frank Agyekum, former President Kufuor said the prevailing situation in Africa exposed the continent to trial-and-error leaders who had to learn on the job at great cost to the governance of the nations.

While in Geneva, former President Kufuor also addressed the Governing Council of Interpeace, a global peace organization, and gave account of his position as the first African Chairman, a position he has held for one year.

He has since returned home.
