A group calling itself the "True Members of New Patriotic Party", is challenging the election of polling station executives and area Co-ordinators of the party, in the Asante Akim North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The group had called for the nullification of the exercise, accusing the constituency executives and the Member of Parliament MP), Mr. Kwame Anyimadu Antwi of deliberately electing their favourites to ensure that their positions are maintained.

Mr. Stephen Boampong, Spokesperson of the group made this known on Friday after the members hit the streets of Konongo, the municipal capital to draw public attention about their displeasure and presented a petition to the Constituency Secretary of the party.

The petition said the election committee had no regional representation contrary to the rules and regulations governing the exercise. The group said the entire process was fraught with illegalities and called for fresh nominations, saying anything short of the demand could lead to chaos in the party.

Mr. Agyemang Duku, who received the petition, commended the group for the peaceful nature it conducted the demonstration and assured the members that their concerns would be addressed.

Mr. Antwi, however denied the claims by the group which, he said, were instigated by some faceless persons in the party, adding that the exercise was free, fair and transparent. On the allegation that the election committee had no regional representation, the MP said the Regional Organiser, Alhaji Abdalar was part of the committee.
