KWASI ADU, the 22-year-old suspected killer who was busted by the police in a bedroom of the Sakumono residence of the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, has been remanded in prison custody by a Sunyani District Magistrate Court.

The suspected killer is to re-appear in court on September 15 with the second accused, Kwabena Noah, who is still being sought after by the police. The two have been slapped with conspiracy and murder charges.

was last Friday smoked out from the bedroom of the Deputy Regional Minister in Accra, in an attempt to escape arrest, following his involvement in the July 19, 2009 shooting attack on New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizers by National Democratic Congress (NDC) thugs at Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, which resulted in the death of a 40-year-old evangelist of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Kwame Nyame.

Eric Opoku, a former MP for the area, had earlier on Thursday before the arrest of the suspect, rebuffed media reports that suggested that he had links with the young man, who among other accomplices, had fled the town for fear of being arrested after the fatal incident.

However, a few hours after this strong denial, the police grabbed the young man in the bedroom of the minister.

Meanwhile, Mr. Eric Opoku, the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, has explained that had come to his house because someone had tricked him into doing so in order to frame him (minister) up. He also stressed that the suspected killer was not arrested in his bedroom but the bathroom.

Sankore has been one of the troubled spots in the Brong Ahafo Region due to the political unrest between members of the two main political parties, the NDC and NPP.

Six months after the December 2008 elections, some angry youth of the ruling NDC went on rampage wielding deadly weapons in broad daylight and reportedly opened fire and attacked supposed sympathizers of the opposition party.

During this display of barbarity with full political backing, the evangelist was shot at close range when he was returning from church service.
