A FORMER Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Frank Osei Mensah, has announced his intention to vie for the chairmanship of the party in the region, when nominations open.

Mr. Mensah, who is also a member of the National Fund Raising Committee of the party, told cadres at a meeting in Kumasi over the weekend, that his decision was influenced by the need to consolidate the gains of the party, after having assumed power from the last elections.

According to him, cadres, by their institution, share a common vision with the founder of the party, and therefore need to be rejuvenated to better champion the growth of the party in the region.

He referred the cadres to the provisions of Article Six (6) of the NDC Constitution, which pointed to the vision and leadership style of the founder, and urged them to look up to Mr. Rawlings for direction in ensuring the growth of the party in the region.

Mr. Mensah noted that the cadres were the envy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), because of their organisational ability and skills, and urged them not to relent in their efforts to increase the membership and support base of the party, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

The former Party Chairman commended the cadres for being humble, modest, enthusiastic and resourceful.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the United Cadres Front, Mr. Ahmed Boakye Agyeman, has cautioned cadres to save Ghana from abuse by political and economic vampires of the previous administration.

He cautioned the leadership of the party against complacency in retaining political power, in order to stay focused and build a better Ghana. Mr. Boakye Agyeman announced the intention of the United Cadres Front to institutionalise the name of the party founder, by the establishment of a Rawlings Foundation.

The Regional Women's Organiser, Ms Anima Wilson, said Mr. Rawlings was as relevant to the NDC today, as he was in its formative years, having fought for social justice and the institution of democracy in Ghana.

She advised the cadres to be guided by the principles of probity and accountability in their quest to support the party and the government.
