Some youths of the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region are planning to carry out a series of attacks against Hon. Tackie Commey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

According to the angry youths, the attacks are intended to make the MP wake up from his slumber and live up to his legislative duties in the Constituency.

They are also threatening to make the four-year term of the MP not only unpleasant, but also to make life unbearable for him, if he fails to live to his duties as the peoples' representative in the legislative assembly.

Information pieced together by TODAY indicates that Hon. Tackie Commey is quickly losing his popularity in the area, especially among the youths. According to many of the constituents, this decline in good favor has the potential of costing him his seat come next general elections in 2012.

“Hon. Tackie Commey must avail himself of election history in Odododiodio Constituency; he might have pulled through in the parliamentary elections, but I can promise that if this is how he will be attending to the needs of the constituents, then we will vote him out in 2012,” said one of the youth in the area.

This reporter learnt that the youth have lost faith in the abilities of the MP to deliver as he promised them during the 2008 electioneering campaign, and currently they don't want to have anything to do with him.

“Hon Commey has really disappointed us and he should bear in mind that four years is just around the corner,” said youth Atta Mensah.

Although one of such threat was carried out by the younger generation last week, the paper gathered on Thursday that the matter is far from over. However, the youth are bent on embarking on more positive actions to register their qualms against the legislator.

According to some of the youth who spoke to TODAY, the MP has failed to prove to them that he can deliver on his campaign messages. They couldn't, for instance, fathom why the MP would sit aloof for a ban to be placed on the celebration of their traditional Homowo Festival. They are also taking a swipe against the MP's promise to renovate the Slaha Market.

“We were promised by Hon. Commey that if we vote for him he will ensure that the Slaha Market in Odododiodio Constituency is renovated, but since he became the MP of the area 7 months from now there has not been any renovation work at the market. This is very disappointing to say the least,” said Okine Lamptey, a resident who has lived in the constituency for almost 16 years.

Another reason why many of the constituents are unhappy with Hon. Commey is his insensitivity towards the plight of fishermen in the area, particularly in their season to make bumper harvest. They stressed that instead of the fishermen going to sea to catch a lot of fish, they are rather contending with premix and its related problems.

“Hon Tackie Commey has not in any way helped our poor fishermen at all; All that he has been interested in is sitting at bars and receiving unnecessary cheers from a few constituents,” said Osah Kabutey.

Last Thursday, a group of angry youth in Odododiodio wielding sticks, cutlasses and other offensive weapons besieged the official residence of Hon. Tackie Commey with the intention of going to attack the MP. The youth were disappointed when they arrived at the house that the MP was out of reach.

The situation, according to an eye witness account, was so terrifying that the District Police had to call for reinforcement. The police personnel deployed to restore peace swiftly arrived in three buses armed with firm instruction to deal with anybody who had ill-intentions to disturb the peace in the Constituency.
