Veep Calls For Unity

VICE President, John Dramani Mahama THE VICE President, John Dramani Mahama, has said Ghana's quest for attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 would be a mirage if the nation is totally divided on political, religious, chieftaincy and tribal lines. 

He has therefore reiterated the need for Ghanaians to bury their differences and unite for a better Ghana.

Differences, he indicated, would drag the country backwards and plunge it into disrepute to the disadvantage of the growing generation.  

The Vice President who made the call during a courtesy call on the Gulpkpegu regent, Alhaji Abdulai Ziblim in Tamale, also commended the electorate for effecting the real change the citizenry yearned for through the ballot, with the promise that Ghana under the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government would be a safe haven for all citizens irrespective of one's geographical or political inclination.  

He particularly commended the people of the three northern regions for being very pivotal in the victory of the NDC, which he said would in turn translate into victory for the country.  

Vice President Mahama emphasised that he would do everything possible within his power as the second gentleman of the state, to bridge the yawning developmental gap between regions of the south and north.  

His visit to Tamale, though unofficial, was to mourn and sympathise with Dr. Sulley Gariba, Director of the Institute of Policy Alternatives (IPA), who lost his father a week ago at Lamashegu.

The Vice President later paid courtesy calls on some traditional and religious leaders within the Tamale metropolis but has since returned to Accra.

He was accompanied by Majority Leader, Alban Sumani Bagbin, MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, a former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, Huudu Yahaya, Mawuko Zomelo, and some regional party functionaries.
