NEW: Ghana Tourist Villas offers an unforgettable holiday and business experience in Accra.
Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi FORMER PRESIDENT Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings on Wednesday passed a night in a hotel saved from imminent demise by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, despite continually lambasting the ruling government for doing nothing for the country.

The former first couple lodged at the refurbished Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi, formerly known as City Hotel on Wednesday night, DAILY GUIDE gathered.

According to a source, the couple slept in room 1604 and a football manager who is now the Chief Executive of one of the four premiership clubs in the Ashanti region (name withheld) paid the hotel bill for the two.

The source claimed Mr. Rawlings and his wife clandestinely entered the hotel, perhaps to avoid being seen by members of the public as enjoying some of the achievements of the NPP government.

Mr. Rawlings and his wife were reportedly in Kumasi to attend the last rally of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region which took place at the Asem School Park on Thursday afternoon.

The City Hotel, now Golden Tulip Hotel, it would be recalled, was neglected during Mr. Rawlings' tenure of office.

The hotel which used to host high-profile personalities who visited the city stopped functioning during the NDC administration.

Meanwhile Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Manhyia constituency has slammed the former first couple for lodging in a hotel which collapsed under their watch.

He said, “It is God who has kept Rawlings alive to see the exemplary works of a good, honest and God-fearing person like President Kufuor.” From Fred J.A. Ibrahim Jnr., Kumasi

Rawlings has not said and will never say K4 has done nothing for Ghana as against what the NPP said about the NDC.

Whatever we see in Ghana today belongs to Ghns and not to JJ or K4 or whoever, it is all done by our own money so pls give me a break about JJ clandestinely occupying the hotel, how rude and how uncivilised to write such an article.

JJ is campaigning for his candidate and he cannot spend his time and resources to sing praise songs for K4 and his NPP govt who have had so much luck to have moved Ghana forward higher than what we see today and that is the issue at stake and not the refurbishment of an old hotel.

How many flats and apartments has the NPP built for Ghns, how many hospitals, universities, science centres, secondary and vocational schools have they built bearing in mind the level of foreign inflows and debt cancellations that the country has enjoyed, that is what we are talking about.

Most of the money that shd have been used to help Ghns were used to make the lives of big people comfortable, unnecessary travels across the globe and paying of perdiems and the list continuous, that is what this election is all about and not the refurbishment of an old structure.

God Save Ghana.
