Presidential candidates told to focus on world trade injustice

Presidential candidates have been urged to focus their campaigns on how Ghana could be a force to reckon with on the world market.

The Ghana Trade Justice Initiative (GTJI) advocate for world trade justice between developed and developing countries which made the call in a statement noted that, manifestoes of the political parties did not talk about how the nation can rise against the world trade injustice.

The GTJI expressed its concern in the statement signed by Reverend Patrick Kofi Amissah and Mr J. K. Mensah, Coordinator and Secretary respectively and issued to the GNA on Friday.

The statement expressed regret that while imported goods flourished on the Ghanaian Market, Ghana's products were either rejected or not patronized on the international market and called for the reversal of this trend.

It said Ghana, together with other developing countries would find it difficult to challenge the developed nations on trade issues unless the citizenry send clear signals on their interests on the matter.

It therefore behoves on the leaders to place priority on the subject matter and ensure that Ghana's goods were patronized heavily on the world trade market in order to boost the economy.

While encouraging civil society groups and religious leaders to join in the campaign in the call for a just world trade regime, the Ghanaian populace must also pressurize their parliamentarians to make the quest for trade justice a key issue in their deliberations in the next government.

The statement called on the populace to create the enabling environment for peace to prevail after the elections to ensure the growth or the country's young democracy.
