The Member of Parliament for the Ave-Avenor constituency, Mr. Doe Adjaho has sensitized the chiefs and people of the Ave traditional area in the Akatsi District to exercise their franchise judiciously in the upcoming national elections.

Mr. Adjaho, who is also the Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament said in order to ensure peaceful and non-violent elections all the major stakeholders including the electorate must put the interest of nation first, and their own last.

He was speaking at the grand durbar of chiefs and people of the Ave traditional area to climax the 10th anniversary celebration of the Ave Bliza at Ave Dakpa last Saturday.

This year's celebration marked by the area, known as one of the largest maize producers in the country brought together all the six divisional chiefs of Ave, sons and daughters of the area as well as foreigners and well-wishers from far and near.

The MP called on the youth to actively participate in social and political activities that would benefit society.

In a brief speech, the founder of the Ave Development Union (AVEDU), Mr. Pius Attise asked the chiefs not to allow land litigations and petty squabbles divide their front since in unity lies strength.

He also advised the youth to abstain from drugs and crime and rather learn from the experiences of people who could influence their lives positively.

Earlier on, in his welcoming address, the incumbent president of the Ave Development Union, Mr Mc-Solo Zida recounted some achievements of the union such as the formation of the Ave Council of Chiefs (ACC) and the connection of the national grid to some Ave towns.

He commended Mr. Adjaho for his untiring efforts and self-less devotion to the people, which had earned him the nickname, “man of all seasons” because he was everywhere whether rain or shine.

The Akatsi DCE, MR. Anthony Abledu advised the youth to take advantage of some training programmes for JHS graduates and get enrolled in order to acquire employable skills through the district sponsorship schemes.

The chairman for the occasion, Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe IV, who is also president of the Ave Council of Chiefs called for unity among all people of Ave descent and resolved to protect and defend the social and cultural heritage of the people.
