By Daily Guide - Daily Guide Politics | Mon, 25 Feb 2008
SOURCES CLOSE to DAILY GUIDE have revealed that the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region, Mr. Ibrahim Zubairo has been arrested for allegedly dealing in human trafficking.
Mr. Ibrahim Zubairo has been granted inquiry bail and is expected to appear before an Accra court on February 26, 2008.
The sources told the paper that the arrest of Mr. Ibrahim Zubairo has made executives of the party in the constituency apprehensive.
"The best option for us as activists of the party is to change our parliamentary candidate immediately to save our campaign message,” a leading member of the party in the constituency stated.
Meanwhile, some supporters of the party in the constituency are mounting pressure on the constituency executives to come out clearly on the issue and the way forward for the party in the area.
Some people who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity disclosed that Mr Zubairo was not the man the party had intended to use to capture the Agona West parliamentary seat, and that he had been imposed on them.
They further disclosed that the image of the NDC had been tainted in this crucial election year.
In an interview with Agona West constituency chairman of NDC, Mr. Musah Donkor confirmed the story but noted that since the matter was before court, the executives were patiently waiting for the outcome to determine the fate of the parliamentary candidate.
