A youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region have declared its support for Mr Alan Kyerematen, one of the aspiring presidential candidates of the party.

NPP's youth wing in the Mfantsiman West constituency said Mr Kyerematen was the right candidate to lead the party and the nation because he had distinguished himself in the performance of his duties when he was the Minister of Trade, Industry, PSD and PSI.

It said through his leadership the ministry generated a lot of foreign exchange for the country through increased export of garments, salt and oil palm.

Mr Duker George Mireku, Assistant Secretary the youth wing, said at a press conference on Tuesday that through Mr Kyerematen's efforts Ghana's exports increased from 1.6 billion dollars in 2002 to 3.4 billion in 2006 and that non-traditional exports increased from 400 million dollars to 897 million dollars.

Mr Mireku said the former minister deserved to lead the party because he had been instrumental in the creation of jobs through the PSI and revived the Pwalugu tomato factory and Juapong textiles, now Volta Star.

He is a founding member of the NPP and has been a member of the National Executive Committee, the party's economic management team and finance committee since 1992.

Mr Kyerematen was, between 1992 and 2001, the chairman of the Young Executive Forum that was one of the financial backbones of the party while in opposition.

Mr Mireku said now that the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) had exonerated the former minister of allegations of impropriety made against him, the youth in the constituency believe Mr Kyerematen was the most marketable of all the aspirants.

"We the youth from the Central Region have realized that Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen is the only candidate amongst the lot who has gained enough experience in both public and private sectors which are key for Ghana's accelerated growth", he said.
