The 2024 general elections will be a choice between the future offered by the NPP's flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the rejected past of former president John Dramani Mahama, according to Kow Essuman, the legal counsel of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In a post on X on Tuesday, May 7, Mr. Essuman argued that Ghanaians have already experienced Mahama's leadership in the past and overwhelmingly rejected it in 2016 and again in 2020.

“No amount of rebranding can turn that past into a better choice than a future of hope and prosperity," he stated.

He described Bawumia as "the candidate of the youth and the candidate of innovation" who represents the future that Ghanaians are looking for.

“This year's election isn't just a choice; it's a decision between the past (Mahama) and the future (Bawumia)," the lawyer wrote.

Essuman appealed to Ghanaians to vote for Bawumia in the 2024 polls to "leave the past behind, one last time."

He urged eligible voters to register ahead of the crucial elections and "on 7 December 2024, cast your ballot for the future."

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has begun a limited voter registration exercise for citizens who have just turned 18 years and for those who do not have a voter ID. The exercise is in effect from Tuesday, May 7, to Monday, May 27.
