Internet Safety Magazine Publisher, Rotimi Onadipe, has cautioned internet users against using their smartphones at midnight when they are supposed to be having a good sleep.

Onadipe gave the warning on Saturday in Ibadan during the one hundred and fifth (105th) edition of the weekly broadcast he initiated to sensitise smartphone users about how to avoid online risks.

Onadipe noted that most users of smartphone are not aware about the risks involved when they don't sleep for at least seven hours at nights as recommended by experts.

He said: "We must be mindful of the danger that sleepless nights pose to our health. Experts have recommended certain number of hours of sleep each day for toddlers, preschool, school-age, teen, young adults, adults and older adults.

"We must not allow our smartphone to deprive us from enjoying the benefits of a good sleep. It is our responsibility to contact experts for proper education and counseling on how to enjoy the benefits of a good sleep.

"There is no doubt that our smartphone has many benefits that we all enjoy almost every day, but we must also be informed about the danger it poses to our physical and mental health when we are deprived of our sleep.

"According to experts, sleeping regularly for less than seven hours at night can put our health at risk. A good sleep reduces our risk of having some health problems e.g. eye diseases, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression, among others while lack of good sleep can increase our risk for some health challenges.

"To avoid becoming victims of some health problems, let's not allow our smartphone to deprive us from having a good sleep. More importantly, we must contact experts for counseling if our smartphone is already having negative impact on our sleep," Onadipe added.
