As the CEO of the Abadir Development Association, I had the privilege of leading a remarkable project that took place from April 21 to 24 in Raaso, Somali Region, Ethiopia. This project aimed to provide free eye medical treatment and surgery to those in need. Teaming up with Raaso Primary Hospital and Gamadiid Eye Care, led by the renowned humanitarian Dr. Abdiaziiz Ibrahim, we successfully treated and restored the vision of over 600 people, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of many.

Dr. Abdiaziiz Ibrahim, a noble laureate celebrated for his humanitarian endeavors, played a pivotal role in the success of our project. His dedication and care for the patients he served in Raaso were truly extraordinary. With his expertise and profound commitment, we were able to transform the lives of numerous individuals suffering from eye-related ailments.

Throughout the project, a myriad of touching moments resonated with me deeply. However, one particular story stands out, illuminating the profound impact our work had on the lives of the people of Raaso.

Hawo, a kind-hearted grandmother, had been experiencing blindness for the past 25 years due to trachoma-related complications. The sorrowful reality of living in perpetual darkness had undoubtedly burdened her soul, isolating her from the vibrant world around her. Yet, the completion of her surgery brought a moment of revelation and immeasurable joy.

I vividly recall the day Hawo entered the makeshift triage, guided by her granddaughter. There was a yearning for hope in their eyes, a desperate longing to restore what was lost. As Dr. Ibrahim examined Hawo, his professionalism and expertise instilled confidence in both patient and caregiver. There was an unspoken understanding that something remarkable was about to happen.

The moment arrived. With steady hands and unwavering focus, Dr. Ibrahim performed the surgery that would change Hawo's life forever. As the minutes ticked by, a hushed sense of anticipation filled the air. Then, as if orchestrated by destiny, the moment of transformation unfolded.

When Hawo removed the bandages, a wave of emotions engulfed us all. Her eyes welled up with tears of disbelief and joy as her vision was gradually restored. I could feel the weight of her decades-long struggle lifting, gradually being replaced by a newfound sense of hope.

As she looked around, marveling at the vibrant colors and the faces of loved ones, it became clear that this simple act of surgery had brought about a miracle—a miracle that would forever shape the lives of Hawo and those around her.

The completion of the Abadir Development Association's project in Raaso left an indelible mark on the lives of over 600 individuals who received free eye medical treatment and surgery. It is a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion, exemplified by the dedicated efforts of Dr. Abdiaziiz Ibrahim, the healthcare professionals involved, and our generous donors.

Among the many heartwarming stories, Hawo's transformation stands out as a shining example of how restoring vision can not only change an individual's life but also uplift an entire community. Through initiatives like these, we can continue to restore dignity, hope, and opportunity, one pair of eyes at a time.
