The campaign of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shifted focus away from economics as double-digit inflation hits Ghanaians hard, according to the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament.

In comments made on Saturday, Kwame Governs Agboza, MP for Adaklu constituency, said Dr. Bawumia had made economics the core focus of his campaign in the past due to his background as an economist.

However, the current high inflation rate in Ghana appears to have prompted a change in approach.

He implies Dr. Bawumia is shying away from economics on the campaign trail to distance himself from the rising cost of living under his vice presidency.

"Today in 2024, he is campaigning to be President and he has decided to be deliberately quiet about the double digit inflation because it has worsened every area he spoke about in 2012," Agboza said.

"Today, one may even forget the VP is an economist since he deliberately avoids all the usual economic terms such as cost of living, interest rates, exchange rates, cost of borrowing, job creation, etc he used prior to becoming VP. His campaigns are 'economics-free' campaigns," the Chief Whip added.
