Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister for Communications and Digitalization, has hinted that the country will be rolling out 5G internet connectivity by September 2024.

In an interview on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' morning show, the minister said the government is committed to providing seamless and reliable internet connectivity for Ghanaians.

She emphasised that the introduction of 5G technology is a crucial step towards enhancing internet access and addressing the challenges of slow and unreliable connectivity experienced with the current 4G network.

Mrs. Ekuful assured citizens that redundant internet connectivity will soon be a thing of the past with the implementation of 5G technology.

Addressing recent internet disruptions experienced in the country, the minister acknowledged the inconvenience caused and assured the public that measures were being taken to resolve the issue promptly.

While the exact cause of the disruptions remains uncertain, Owusu Ekuful speculated that it could be due to physical damage to internet cables, possibly caused by a landslide.

Regarding the financial impact of the disruptions, the minister stated that her office is yet to assess the full extent of the losses incurred.

However, she stressed the importance of investing in robust infrastructure, including multiple cable connections, to prevent future occurrences of internet disruptions.

Ending the interview, the Minister reiterated the government's commitment to improving internet connectivity in Ghana stating, "Ghana will get 5G internet connectivity in September 2024."
