Accra, may 30, GNA -- Mr Slim Aloulou, leader of the CAF Inspection team has expressed his team's satisfaction with the progress of work at the four venue centres designated for the CAN 2008 African Cup of nations tournament.
He said that renovation works at the both the Ohene Djan and Baba Yara sports stadiums in Accra and Kumasi were even a little ahead of schedule, while the construction of the two new stadia at Tamale and Sekondi was at a very advanced stage.
Mr Aloulou said this at a briefing with the media at the end of a four-day inspection of the sites
He also noted the team's satisfaction with the efforts being made to provide hotel accommodation for the teams and officials during the tournament.
The leader of the delegation however advised that Ghana should take the accommodation even more seriously, particularly in the case of Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale but commended the plan to construct a tournament hostel and the refurbishment of the old City Hotel in Kumasi as being in the right direction.
Mr Aloulou pledged CAF's commitment to work very closely with Ghana to ensure that the Can 2008 was hosted successfully to create a good image for both Ghana and CAF and to push forward the development of football in Africa.
The Chairman of the LOC, Dr Kofi Amoah thanked the CAF Inspection team for the frank manner in which they held discussions with all stakeholders.
He gave the assurance that Ghana would everything possible not only to ensure that the CAN 2008 was hosted successfully, but also to make spectacular of all the previous tournaments.
Dr Amoah was laos full of praise for all who are playing diverse roles to enable Ghana to host a successful tournament.
The Chairman appealed to the media to try and explain to the public that the Inspection team were part of the normal processes aimed at pushing forward the preparations towards the hosting of CAF tournaments. Dr Amoah said the CAF Inspection has thus come to Ghana not to find fault and punish the country for any lapses but rather to inspect the progress made in he provision of infrastructure to host the tournament and advise on the way forward. 30 May 06
