Former Feyenoord player poised to revive career

Accra, Aug 31, GNA - Former Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord midfielder Gilbert Ansah is set to revive his footballing career in the country after years of playing outside.

Gilbert Ansah, who started his footballing career with Dawu Youngsters in 1998, also featured for Okwahu United and Kwaebibirem Stars as an attacking midfielder and caught the eyes of many clubs locally and internationally.

In an exclusive interview with the GNA Sports, Gilbert Ansah said he was very much keen on reviving his career locally.

'From Kwaebibirem Stars I joined Accra Hearts of Oak in 2005, for half a season in other to continue with my development. Though it was for only a half season I learnt a lot as a player.'

'It was a nice experience to have played for one of the big clubs in Ghana and Africa as well' he said.

According to Gilbert, his exploits caught the attention of Coach Addy, who took him to Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord to spend a year in 2006.

Gilbert, who has an eye for goal and always love to join the attack said it was after Feyenoord that his international career begun.

'After the one year at Feyenoord, I left for Peru in 2007, to play for a club with the fifth largest number of international appearances, Sports Boys, in the Peruvian League.'

'There, I spent only a season and moved on to play for Sporting Cristal, a club which has won the league on 17 occasions and the Peruvian team with the third most national titles' he added.

The former Feyenoord player said he has had contacts with some local clubs in the Ghanaian top flight league as well as the lower divisions but he is taking his time to make the best decision.

'Some clubs have contacted me for my services but I am taking my time so that i dont rush into something and regret later. I want a club that I will have regular playing time instead of warming the bench.'

'Some international clubs too have come calling but am just hoping to get things sorted out in a more professional way here in Ghana.'

According to Gilbert he had to stop playing for a while to nurse a nagging injury and has since been playing for some second divisions clubs in Ghana.
